Abstract

This project proposes the synthesis of calcium phosphate particles functionalized with monomers containing phosphate groups (methacryloxyethyl phosphate, MOEP; and 10-methacrylyloxydecyl dihydrogen phosphate, MDP) with the objective of producing calcium and phosphate ion-releasing particles with good dispersion and chemical interaction with resin matrixes based on dimethacrylates. These particles will be used in the development of composites with mechanical properties compatible with the clinical use as restorative material in posterior teeth, and capable of promoting dentin remineralization. This project is divided into three phases. In Phase 1, dicalcium phosphate (DCPD) particles will be synthesized and characterized with respect to the presence of the functional monomer, surface area, size and morphology. In Phase 2, particles having desirable size and functionalization characteristics will be incorporated into a resin matrix in combination with conventional fillers to produce composites. These materials will be tested for mechanical properties and ion release. Finally, in Phase 3, the materials showing the best behavior in the previous phase will be tested as restoration in vitro regarding its dentin remineralization potential.
