Abstract

This postdoctoral project proposes the development of amperometric sensors based on nanostructured alpha-NixV1-x(OH)2 sols synthesized in different proportions of nickel and vanadium from sol-gel method. Such sensors should be obtained in the form of thin films, as well as associated with carbon paste, aiming at the determination and quantification of species of interest such as carbohydrates and diuretic drugs prohibited by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) because they are considered masking agents, such as indapamide, metolazone, thiazides such as chlorothiazide and hydrochlorothiazide. Expanded graphite and reduced graphene oxide (GrEx and rGO, respectively) will be incorporated into the material, thus seeking an increase of the sensor conductivity, in addition to stabilizing the alpha phase of the hydroxides formed. The preparation of the solids directly in the presence of expandable graphite or reduced graphene oxide may favor the obtaining of more uniform materials and this possibility should also be tested.From the thermal decomposition of alpha-NixV1-x(OH)2, mixed oxides of nickel/vanadium will be obtained, so amperometric and impedimetric sensors in the form of carbon paste electrodes will be developed containing GrEx and rGO, for the determination and quantification of species of interest. The study of these new amperometric and impedimetric sensors should be performed using different electrochemical techniques (cyclic voltammetry, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and pulse techniques).The sensors developed in this project should be used in conjunction with flow electroanalytical techniques such as Flow Injection Analysis (FIA) and Batch Injection Analysis (BIA). For such applications, electrochemical cells should be build and optimized for the subsequent application of these sensors. The use of these techniques in flow will allow the development of methodologies for the determination and quantification of the species of interest, which can be oxidized (or reduced) by the sensors developed in this project.
