Abstract

With the accelerated increase of computational capacity, the use of computational simulations has become more and more common in several knowledge areas. Among them, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) has stood out, since it allows the analysis of complex flows details at relatively low costs. One of its possible applications is the modeling of flows of particulate systems, observed in a diverse range of industrial applications. In such processes, the formation of particle agglomerates can occur frequently, which can substantially alter the dynamics of the phases present in the flow. In order to contribute to the better understanding of the interaction of fluids with isolated particles and particle agglomerates, the present project proposes the application of CFD to predict the forces acting over different configurations and particle formats in the cross flow of fluids past them. Drag coefficients and lift coefficients will be determined for different Reynolds numbers. These data will be compared with data and correlations present in the literature, with the possibility of proposing new models.
