Abstract

When in contact with the literary studies of utopia, we can note the absence of works from the Latin American continent. This is due to a theoretical question within the studies of this genre, which divides the literature of ideal worlds into niches, which we present here as inscribed in three groups: (I) the idea of utopianism, which forms a set of utopian ideals; (II) utopia, characterized as unreality and happiness within the model state; and (III) dystopia, which is a negative reality. This paper will attempt to understand the reasons within the Latin constitution of fiction that have led the fictional ideological states of South America to become utopian and not utopian, as well as to observe from a postcolonial point of view the formation of the term utopia. To reach this level, I intend to use books, archival documents, online articles, monographs, and even the small archive of the Mexican modernist pictorial production in MASP.
