Abstract

The production of sheep milk has been emphasizing in the Brazilian livestock, with that, the prevention of diseases is very serious to reduce the losses to the producer. Mastitis is the disease with the greatest impact on dairy production and is responsible for numerous damages. The present study is relevant for quality of milk, well-being and public health due to the appearance of bacterial strains resistant to antimicrobials present in the market and beyond, losses related to milk production and quality. The aim of the study is to verify the inhibitory effects of the supernatant of non-aureus staphylococci (NAS) against the major pathogens causing ovine mastitis (Klebsiella spp., Staphylococcus aureus e Streptococcus uberis). NAS are pathogens found in the udder flora and may exert a beneficial effect, and may do so through virulence mechanisms such as the release of bacteriocins. Thus, we can suggest the use of these isolates in the control and/or treatment of ovine mastitis and thus reduce the indiscriminate use of antimicrobials.
