This project seeks to study the transmission of schistosomiasis in low-prevalence areas. It will be applied different modelling methods according to the problems to deal. The epidemic thresholds and the disease dynamic in the human population will be studied using ordinary differential equations, while the dynamic of the parasite aquatic stages and the dynamic of the intermediate host will be analysed through partial differential equations and agent-based modelling. It will be studied the application of control strategies based on the mass diagnosis using the detection method named Helmintex. Last, we will perform a cost-effectiveness analysis of the control efforts from a government perpective.
