Abstract

Copper (Cu) in small amounts is an essential element for plant growth and development. Among its functions, copper has an impact in photosynthesis, plant transpiration and carbon (C) and nitrogen (N) metabolism. As a result of industrial, mining and agricultural activities, copper can reach high concentrations in soils, causing damage to the environment and biota. Excess of copper in soil is toxic to plants, limiting plant growth. The objective of this project is to evaluate morphological and physiological responses in the growth and development of aerial and radicular systems of young plants of pioneer and non-pioneering species of the Atlantic Forest, submitted to different copper concentrations.
