Catalogue of types of the family Trombiculidae sensu lato (Acari: Trombidiformes) deposited in the national Chigger collection of the USNM and use of LT-SEM technique for a better interpretation of the morphological characters
There are about 3,300 species of chiggers, and most of these type species are deposited in the Systematic Entomology Laboratory (SEM), in the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Beltsville MD. Then, before the elaboration the redescriptions of several species, due to the poor original descriptions, a type catalogue is necessary to have the exact dimension of that collection. To help in this work and elucidate some doubts of the characteristics, will also be realized LT-SEM (Low Temperature Scanning Electron Microscopy).
