Study of Surface-Mounted Metal-Organic Frameworks (SURMOFs) growth mechanisms to application on electrical devices

Abstract

Surface Metal-Organic Frameworks (SURMOFs) is a new class of nanostructured materials based on the tridimensional networks of metallic clusters and organic ligands. These structures have important characteristics such as crystalline orientation, high porosity and superficial area. In the recent years, SURMOFs films have been applied in electrical devices as a mainly component. However, there are just a few works in literature about the study of electrical properties of SURMOF thin films (<50 nm), since their incorporation in electrical devices is still a challenge. Here, we propose the study of SURMOF growth conditions and their incorporation in nanomembrane-based device platforms, which allows the electrical measurement of ultra-thin SURMOF films. The study of growth parameters will be focused on the synthesis of homogeneous and low-rough films, presenting high stability in chemical and physical environments related with photolithographic process typically used in device fabrication. Different types of SURMOFs will be assembled such as HKUST-1, SURMOF-2 and ZIF-8, using spray, flow automation and dipping robot growth setups. This project will contribute to the study of SURMOFs thin-films electrical and dielectric properties, allowing a deeper understanding of films characteristics and expanding their applications, mainly in the field of nanotechnology.
