Anachronisms: the images of time in Dom Quixote de la Mancha

Abstract

Starting for a Contemporary Esthetics, Art History, History of Emotions, above Didi-Huberman's Image theory, using contemporary aesthetics perspectives of Jacques Rancière, Gilles Deleuze, Walter Benjamin, Theodor W. Adorno and others, we intent to comprehend how Cervantes' artwork discloses a complex time composition that refuses restricted itself in its own time, building and rebuilding multiple temporalities: medieval and modern ones. It will provide us understanding temporality's changes and survival relationships - eschatological on the side and infinity by the other as a symptom model concerning the deepest articulation among cosmos's image (medieval) and world's image (baroque), underlined by Quixote's time angst. The research purposes discuss how Dom Quixote can be read not just as an ironical critic related to 16th century Spanish society's lateness but also as a symptom of historical changes of emotions expressing itself in a singular way at dialectic image within Cervantes's artwork: dividing synthesis about medieval and modern's angst, which reminiscences, blanks, returns and jumps constitutes a temporal multiplicity of historical time - not necessarily linear.
