The incidence of nausea and vomiting affects 25-30% of individuals after surgery and in high-risk patients, this incidence can reach 70-80%. The identification of individuals at high risk for postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) may restrict the number of potential candidates for a particular type of anti-emetic therapy, indicating those most likely to benefit from the effect of certain medications. Inherited factors may play a significant role in background sensitivity for PONV and chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV). Clinical trials on hereditary factors involved in the pathogenesis of PONV and CINV are relatively recent. The aim of this study is to investigate whether inter-individual differences related to PONV are associated with genetic factors. 300 patients will be evaluated in postoperative oncological surgeries. A blood sample (15mL) will be collected in tubes containing EDTA, then processed (Buffy coat) and stored by the Biobank team. The peripheral leukocyte DNA will be extracted by the Salting Out Procedure method and processed to genotyping for 48 SNPs from 15 candidate genes by real-time PCR by the Taqman method. The possible associations with demographic data and factors related to the surgery will be analyzed by univariate and multivariate analysis.
