Abstract

Introduction: The Scoliosis Adolescent Idiopathic (AIS) is had as a complex deformity spinal column unknown etiology, causing rotation vertebrae and deformity rib cage. This is the complex relation between the displacement of the spine and the chest, contributing for the change of the ventilation pattern and consequently the decrease of the respiratory muscles capacity. The strength respiratory muscles can be measured utilizing the respiratory pressure making use of the manuvacuometry by the TLC/RV or FRC methods. Although the ATS recommends that the mensuration of the capacity should be measured by the FRC, there are many reviews that realize the TLC/RV method. The researchers believe that the highest values are obtained applying the TLC/RV due the distinctive capacity of the respiratory muscles and the FRC being the most effective technique to evaluate the strength respiratory muscles. Objective: Evaluate the nominal values differences between TLC/RV and FRC techniques on fellows with AIS and a healthy control group. Methods: Cross-sectional analytical study that will recruit drivers of both sexes aged 10 to 18 years. To evaluate the respiratory muscles strength will be used the analogic manovacuometer. Volunteers should be seated with their backs and feet supported using a nasal clip. The measurements of the respiratory pressures will be done between three and five times by the TLC/RV and FRC maneuvers. The acquired values must be reproductive and should get a result at most a 5% margin between all the outcomes, therefore, the highest value will be adopted. Statistical Method: The methods will be descriptively avaliated. The normality of the variables will be investigated by the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. To compare the average of the healthy and not healthy variables, the not coupled t test or Mann - Whitney will be used. To compare the average between the both manuvacuometry methods on the same patient the t paired test or Wilcoxon will be applied. The error margin is 5%.
