Abstract

This undergraduate project is related to the topic 4.1.5 of the thematic project, and deals with shaft finite element modeling using curved beam model. The objective is to evaluate the potential of replacing the current model of bowing, that neglects the inertia effects of the rotating shaft, for a more representative one, that includes such dynamic effects. The parameters used in the simulation will be the same as the test bench, for comparison purposes. Depending on the results obtained in this project, the rotor-bearing model can be refined to achieve higher accuracy. The goal of this undergraduate scholarship project is to insert the student in the field of mathematical modeling and computational simulation of rotary machines, using the finite element method. It is proposed to the student the rotor modeling considering the shaft as finite element of curved beam, to adequately represent the bowed shaft effect. In general, the bow is represented by equivalent synchronous rotating forces that are inserted into the model, and do not take into account the dynamic effects of inertial forces resulting from bowing of rotating shaft.
