Access to reading and information in prison establishments of the Marília administrative region

Abstract

Access to information and reading is a right guaranteed by various declarations and laws in society, for free individual or arrested people. Reading can be considered a human mechanism in which one can understand the world in which it is inserted. One place that provides reading materials is the library, and its role is to provide information, knowledge and culture, but not everyone has accessed this space, as in the case of prisoners. Brazil has enacted a law for the creation of libraries in prisons, but after more than three decades, there are few prisons have this space. The reading projects and the remission of sentence by reading attempt to clog the gap between prison libraries and reading rooms for prisoners. The purpose of this research is to analyze the conditions of access to information in prisons in the Administrative Region of Marília, São Paulo State, and compare with the proposals found in the national and international literature. The research will be based on bibliographical and documentary researches to analyze the literature and documents on the matter, as well as a survey with the prison director that belong to the administrative region of Marília.
