Abstract

The purpose of the present study was to evaluate in vitro the effect of the association of treatments with fluoridated dentifrices and supplemented with sodium trimetaphosphate (TMP) and amorphous calcium casephosphate (CPP-ACP) phosphopeptide (MI Paste Plus®) on the reduction demineralization of dental enamel. Bovine enamel blocks (4 mm × 4 mm, n = 72) will be selected by the initial surface hardness (SHi) and then divided into 6 treatment groups (n = 12): 1) Dentifrice without F (Placebo); 2) Dentifrice with 1100 ppm F (1100F), 3) Dentifrice with 1100 ppm F associated with MI Paste Plus® (1100F/MI Paste Plus®), 4) Dentifrice with 1100 ppm F + 3% TMP (1100F/TMP) 5) MI Paste Plus® and 6) Dentifrice with 1100 ppm F + 3% TMP associated with MI Paste Plus® (1100F/TMP/MI Paste Plus®). The blocks will be treated 2x/day with the dentifrices, being submitted to 5 pH cycling for 7 days. After pH cycling, the final surface hardness (SHf) will be determined for the calculation of percentage of surface hardness loss (%SH) and integrated loss of subsurface hardness (”KHN). The data will be submitted to the normality and homogeneity tests to use the statistical test most appropriate to the data distribution. Sigmaplot © software for Windows version 12.0 will be used with statistical significance at the 5% level.
