Abstract

Evaluation of cytotoxicity of new drugs, compounds and biomaterials using two-dimensional cell culture is an interesting alternative to reduce the use of animals. However, growing cells in flat layers on plastic surfaces does not accurately model the in vivo state. So, organs-on-chips present an ideal microenvironment to mimic a tissue/organ human-specific. The objective of this work is to develop a low cost microfluidic devices based to polyester-toner technique and xurography using cells embedded in gelatin methacrylamide (GelMA) hydrogels. The excellent biocompatibility of GelMA hydrogels makes them suitable as cell culture matrices that mimic native extracellular matrix (ECM). In addition, we will evaluate the vegetable extracts (Stryphnodendron sp and Casearia sylvestris) and latex membrane incorporated with these extracts and their fractions using these microfluidic chips.
