Abstract

The automotive industry has been continuously investing in the vehicles modernization, by allowing wireless communication among vehicles, other road users and also by the addition of more sensors, which can exceed the number of 100 sensory units per vehicle. Following this evolution, intelligent transportation systems compose a framework that seeks to provide applications and services to overcome the problems in the road sector related to traffic management, as well as to facilitate access to traffic information for other systems and users. Such systems are facilitated through vehicular networks, which makes it possible to use the communication resources for data exchange among vehicles and other entities that support such communication. However, often the computational resources present in the vehicles are underutilized. For this reason, vehicular cloud computing seeks to use such resources for the provision of cloud services that were previously dependent on features available only in the traditional internet cloud. Intelligent transportation systems can now use the resources of one or more vehicles for data processing, storage and communication, and thus aid in decision-making that requires low latency and processing time.
