Evaluation of the environmental quality of forest remanescents in the hydrographic bacias of the municipality of Campinas/SP

Abstract

The remaining vegetation areas are part of the systems supporting natural life and have important functions, both aesthetic and social when ecological, even when inserted in the urban context. In this context, one of the main ecological functions carried out by them is to contribute to the mitigation of environmental impacts resulting from the urbanization process, for example: improving the urban climate, maintaining the milder temperatures and guaranteeing greater thermal comfort to the population ; contribution to the equilibrium of the humidity index and attenuation of air pollution through the adsorption of pollutant particles; assistance in the quantity and quality of water available, by promoting the interception of rainwater, reducing runoff and controlling erosion processes; aid in the processes of nutrient cycling and accumulation and decomposition of organic matter and etc. Therefore, the present project aims to identify, map and determine the environmental quality of the remaining forest areas present in the hydrographic basins, typically urbanized, covered by the municipality of Campinas / SP. To do so, they will be evaluated according to relevant environmental indicators and landscape metrics analysis, such as area, nuclear area, connectivity, land use and land use, among others. It will also be used geoprocessing techniques, remote sensing and statistical analysis as auxiliary instruments. In this way, with the results obtained, the project aims to act as an aid to environmental and urban management in the city of Campinas, allowing for discussions and comparisons between all the hydrographic basins present in the municipality, with regard to forest remnants, identifying the potentialities and weaknesses.
