Abstract

Introduction: community-acquired pneumonia (Pn) is an infection of the lower respiratory tract that can be caused by a virus, bacteria or fungus. This a disease acquired outside the hospital and manifested until 48 hours of admission to the care unit. Acute infectious disease has greatest impact with regard to morbidity and social costs related to treatment. In adults, it has been proven that the Pn causes decreased functional capacity. Children hospitalized with other diseases also exhibit decreased functional capacity, but the Pn has not yet been investigated. Objective: to evaluate the functional capacity in children and adolescents hospitalized with Pn. Method: the study will be divided into two groups: pneumonia (GPnm) and control group (GC). The pneumonia group will consist of children and teenagers from 5 to 17 years, 11meses and 29dias, of both genders, hospitalized with a diagnosis of Pn. The control group will be paired in age and gender, being composed of healthy children. Will be held the Shuttle Walk Test to evaluation of functional capacity. Expected results: the aim is to observe the decrease of functional capacity in the CAP and that this reduction is related to the days of hospitalization.
