Abstract

The main objective of this Scientific Initiation project is to discover the ways in which Vó Tianas Pagode operates in the city of Campinas, to strengthen the community of Vila Teixeira, in light of the historic process of dispersion and repression that Afro-descendants experienced in the city. It also aims to situate this collective within the black resistance groups of Campinas, such as "Urucungos, Puítas e Quijêngues" and "Casa de Cultura Tainã". Moreover, it will discover if this Pagode contributed to the significant increase in the number of performance grupos and samba circles in Campinas in the last 14 years. The project will also document the repertoire of songs most commonly performed by the participants in the Vila Texeira circle. For this the researcher will engage in field research involving assystematic observation and participant observation (LAKATOS, 1996:79), as well as open interviews (MINAYO, 1993), prioritising life histories in order to identify affective relations in memories in relation to the elements of investigation of this project.
