Abstract

Short term memory (MST) refers to the limited storage capacity and duration of information for a short period of time. An instrument developed for the evaluation of this ability is the child memory test (TIME). Previous studies of psychometrical proprieties, especially of items of TIME with children from 3 to 6 years indicated that are difficult items for this age range, therefore this study aims to investigate the precision and evidences of validity of the instrument for children with 7 to 10 years. 120 children from second to fifth grade enrolled in a private school will participate, once it was already realized a study with 120 children enrolled in public schools. It will be used TIME to evaluate MST, a survey of economic classification from ABEP (SLI) and Raven's Progressive Matrices for IQ control. It will be investigated the internal consistency and the homogeneity of items, as well as compared with the performance between the age range, school years and the type of school (public X private) deriving evidence of validity of the instrument. It will also be investigated the relations between the performance of TIME and SLI. It's expected that the results will indicate good precision of TIME and evidences of validity based on the relation with other variables and external criteria.
