Use of different food preservation additives in the productive performance of lactating cows

Abstract

The productive efficiency of dairy cows is related to the quality of the feed provided. Therefore, minimizing the nutritional losses due to the deterioration of the food due to the microbial multiplication can allow an increase in the productive efficiency of dairy cows. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the use of preservative additives in feeding lactating cows and their effect on intake and apparent total digestibility of dry matter and nutrients, fermentation and microbial ruminal protein synthesis, milk production and composition, concentrations of blood metabolites, nitrogen balance, ingestive behavior and particle selection index. The hypothesis of this study is that the use of organic acids (ACO) positively influences the productive performance of lactating dairy cows. Twenty-five lactating Holstein cows will be used, 10 of which will be cannulated in the rumen. The cows will be distributed in 5 5x5 Latin squares, in the following treatments: control (C), without addition of additives in the diet; ProMyr TMR Flexible EN® (F); ProMyr TMR Solid EN® (SO); ProMyr TMR Special EN® (SP); and ProMyr TMR Performance® (P) added daily to TMR at the dose of 4 g / kg of natural material offered. The diet will be formulated according to NRC (2001) in the voluminous: concentrate ratio of 48:52. Each experimental period will last 19 days, with 14 days of adaptation and 5 days of collection. With this study, it is expected to advance the knowledge of the use of ACO with TMR, providing information on the conservation of food and productive performance of dairy cows in tropical climate conditions.
