Russian and Brazilian literature for children: a compared analysis (1919-1943)

Abstract

The aim of this post-doctoral research project is firstly, to delineate a view on the history of the Russian-soviet literature throughout the years 1920 and 1930. Combining notable writers, poets, painters and artists - such as Alissa Poret (1902-1984), Daniil Kharms (1905-1942), Iuri Olecha (1899-1960), Kornei Tchukóvski (1882-1969), Óssip Mandelstam (1891-1938), Vladímir Lébedev (1981-1967), Vladímir Maiakóvski (1893-1930), Vladímir Tátlin (1885-1953) and Samuel Marchák (1887-1964) -, defining one of the most surprising genre of the country, with creations that turned into reference in Russia and worldwide, for writers as well as for graphic designers. It is at this point that the project becomes relevant and innovative, since despite the profusion of talented artists and of some research and translation on the theme, there is a lack of studies in Brazil that produce a more in-depth analysis on this. As such, this study will also contextualize previous key historical periods.To further this view and to integrate the Brazilian case, the second part of this research produces a compared analysis between what was produced to children in Soviet Union and Brazil, from the graphic and literary perspectives, mainly in the period of 1920 and 1930. For this, some authors and productions were selected, which will be compared therefore, from the literary and visual composition viewpoints. The graphic production will also be emphasized, through a parallel, based on the year of 1928, between two magazines for children and adolescents that became paradigmatic in the respective countries: O Tico-Tico, published in Rio de Janeiro from 1905 to 1977, and Ioj, published between 1928 and 1935, in Leningrad (Petersburg).
