Abstract

The calculation of the cross section of the process e+e- to hadrons is one of the main tests of Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD), the theory of strong interactions. Asymptotic freedom, as predicted by the QCD beta function, which dictates that the strong coupling decreases for higher energies is a crucial ingredient in this calculation. The main goal of this research project is to test asymptotic freedom with the one-loop running of the strong coupling and recent data for the cross section of e+e- to hadrons.
