Resistance to the physiological wear of the characterization layer of hybrid ceramic

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the resistance to physiological wear of the characterization layer applied on hybrid ceramics with different surface treatments, as a function of the antagonist. One hundred and sixty (14 mm diameter, 1.2 mm thick) discs of hybrid polymer ceramics (Vita Enamic, Vita Zhanfabrick, Bad Säckingen, Germany) will be made, which will be polished with silicon carbide sticks up to # 600 and randomly (P: polished specimens without characterization; PG: polished specimens, glaze finish; C: conventional pigmentation: CG: conventional pigmentation, glaze finish; J: sandblasting; JG: sandblasting, glaze finish; S: self-etching silane, SG: self-etching silane, glaze finish). Half of the specimens will be submitted to simulation of physiological wear with soapstone applicators, while for the other half, hybrid ceramic applicators will be used. With the aid of contact profilometer, parameters of height, spacing and hybrid roughness will be analyzed. The samples will then be tested for biaxial flexural strength (ISO 6872: 2008). The fracture mode will be evaluated using a stereomicroscope. The values of resistance to bending and roughness will be analyzed statistically. The data will be discussed in front of the relevant literature.
