Abstract

The Work Plan, entitled "The concept of discrimination against women in the General Recommendations and Annual Reports of the Committee on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women of the UN," is part of the Institutionalized Teaching Research: "Cooperation and the reflection of the decisions of international human rights bodies in the jurisprudence of the Federal Regional Courts in Brazil. "The main point that this work aims to address, can be translated by the following question: "What is the concrete dimension of the concept of 'discrimination against women' in the 37 General Recommendations, as well as in the last ten years Annual Reports of the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women?". On that note, its main purpose is to analyses how such Committee interprets and then applies the notion of discrimination against women, by compiling and comparing previous cases and studies embraced in the recommendations and reports previously indicated. Amidst the result of this research, particularly contributing to the Teaching Work Plan, it is expected to adduce how the referred Committee enforces the concept of discrimination against women, as well as to provide other researchers and judicial system professionals with the means of how to better solve cases related to violence and discrimination of gender, and also how to better implement public policies that are further aligned with the global agenda on protection of women's rights, especially considering that Brazil is still one of the countries with the highest rates of gender based crimes.
