This project aims to develop metal oxide nanostrucures (MnO2, CuO, TiO2 and NiO) decorated with gold for application in catalysis. We are interested in the development of metal oxide nanowires (NWs) and gold nanoparticles with well-defined and tunable size, shape and composition. The first step focuses on the NWs synthesis and characterization, as it is going to be used as a support for the gold nanoparticles deposition, leading to a hybrid structure (MOx-Au). Then, the MOx-Au nanostructures are going to be applied as heterogeneous catalysts in reactions with industrial relevance as silane and model molecules (e.g. benzyl alcohol and cyclohexane) oxidation. We intent to correlate the catalyst properties (e.g. activity and selectivity) with physical chemical properties that define the nanomaterials (e.g. composition, shape and size). In this way, the control over these physical chemical properties is crucial for obtaining optimized catalytic properties. (AU)
