The objective of the present study is to evaluate if canine femurs produced by additive manufacture can be used as a didactic resource for understanding the anatomy and veterinary bone surgery, replacing cadaveric femurs. In addition, we sought to measure the impact and the acceptance of these synthetic bones in the teaching and clinical-surgical routine of the veterinary bone anatomy through quantitative-qualitative research with students, veterinary doctors and tutors of canine patients. Two femurs (right and left) were obtained by maceration of a canine corpse. After computed tomography, with the aid of a specific computer program, it was possible to reconstruct the three-dimensional bones on the computer screen. Subsequently the file was converted to format compatible with the 3D printer by deposition of molten material. Two types of colorless synthetic filaments (ABS and PLA) were used for printing. Three questionnaires with different content and closed questions of "YES" or "NO" were developed to perform the comparison between natural and synthetic bones. Questionnaire 1 will be allocated to 400 undergraduate students (5 years) in veterinary medicine, 200 of which will be enrolled in the Veterinary Medicine course at the Faculty of Agrarian and Veterinary Sciences of the Universidade Estadual Paulista, UNESP, Câmpus de Jaboticabal and 200 in the University of Franca, UNIFRAN, France - SP. Questionnaire 2 will be presented to 50 post-graduate students (residents, masters and doctoral students) and professors from both Universities. Questionnaire 3 will be directed to 50 tutors of dogs that are being treated and treated by any orthopedic / neurological condition in the two Universities. The samples will be distributed in three large groups. Group of Students (GA referring to Questionnaire 1), Group of Post-Graduates and Teachers (GP referring to Questionnaire 2) and Group of Tutors (GT referring to Questionnaire 3). GA and GP will still have specific subgroups. For GA, subgroups will be made according to the year of graduation, (5 years) (Subgroups GA1, GA2, GA3, GA4, GA5 respectively). For the Group of Postgraduates and Teachers the subgroups will be referring to the academic level of the participants, that is, a subgroup for residents (GPR), another for students (GPM), one for doctoral students (GPDT) and the fourth for teachers (GPDO). The statistical analyzes will be made from nominal variables (frequency), proportions tests and tests of associations in contingency tables (chi-square). A value of p <0.005 will be considered significant.
