Bamboo is a well-known material with interesting properties for application as a structural material, especially because of its excellent specific mechanical strength in comparison with others conventional building materials. However, there are still a lack of information and development about broad-spectrum preservative treatment and its effect on the mechanical properties of bamboo. In this research proposal for internship abroad, it is aimed an investigation of the effect of new treatments based on Citric Acid and Tannin on the mechanical properties of bamboo and an assessment of conventional treatments based on Dissodium Octaborate Tetrahydrated and CCB (Chromated Copper Borate). This evaluation will be performed by standardized mechanical tests, analyzing the compression, tensile, bending and shear behavior of treated Dendrocalamus asper and Phyllostachys pubescens bamboo.
