Abstract

The general objective of this post-doctorate research is to map and analyze knowledge and practices of indigenous peoples that contribute to the production and conservation of agrobiodiversity. The project proposes a research stage of 10 months (from February 1 to November 30, 2019) at UMR PALOC - IRD/MNHN, under the supervision of Dr. Laure Emperaire. In this period, activities will be developed with the following objectives: (i) enriching the gathering and critical revision of specialized bibliography about indigenous peoples' contributions to agrobiodiversity; (ii) deepening the analysis of data from research among the Krahô, related to the local knowledge associated to traditional farming and management, its conceptual and cosmological schemes; (iii) evaluating the results of BPBES/IPBES Diagnostics, as well as the effects of actions implemented by different institutional projects focused on agrobiodiversity and food security of the Krahô villages. The two central questions around which this research is developed are, firstly, the possibility of mediation and the misconceptions that emerge from the dialogue between local and scientific knowledge; secondly, the convergences and contradictions observed in the way policies for the conservation of biological and cultural diversity, including agrobiodiversity, are articulated with local sociocultural dynamics. With the foreign research internship, the research will benefit from the insertion in an interdisciplinary network of reference researchers and contribute to the debate of PALOC, so as to improve the theorical and methodological fundamentals of this project, which aims to collaborate with the development of studies on agrobiodiversity and local knowledge between indigenous people on a national and international level, as well as support different institutional projects connected to agrobiodiversity conservation policies in Brazil.
