Abstract

Acknowledging the necessity for further scientific information about biomechanic behaviour of multiple overdenture implants on atrophic jaws, the present paper seeks to evaluate the qualitative and quantitative distribution of tension, through photoelastic and strain gauge analysis, about two alternative protocols of grafting procedures to rehabilitation of atrophic jaws: (1) slanting implants and (2) implants with cantilever prosthesis. The specimens will be divided in two groups o fone individual each for photoelastic analysis, and two groups of five elements for strain gauge analysis. Twelve models will be printed, being two of these made from photoelastic resin (PL-2) and 10 made from polyurethane (F160). The groups will be divided according to rehabilitation protocol, as (IAII) - two implants (3,75x11,5mm), one parallel to the axial shaft on first premolar área (14) and the other with distal inclination of 30° on first molar área (16), and prothesis over UCLA abutment with metal base (14) and on intermediate pillar with 30° angle (16) and (IASPC) - two implants (3,75x11,5mm) parallel to axial shaft installed on first premolar area (14) and second premolar (15) and screwed prothesis over UCLA abutment with metal base with pontic (16) cantilevered. On photoelastic test, the set photoelastic model/implant/prothesis will take position on a circular polariscope and then 100N charges will be applied on axial direction, in pre-set spots on occlusal surface of the crowns with the help of a universal assay machine (EMIC). The generated tensions will be photographically registered and analyzed in a graphical program (Adobe Photoshop), to verify the direction of propagation and the intensity of the tensions, according to qualitative analysis. To the strain gauge methodology, two electrical strain gauges will be horizontally positioned in mesial and distal regions of the implants directly on the marginal crest of polyurethane models. The same displacement tests will be carried out. The electrical signs will be captured by a data acquisition device controlled by a computer, being processed by a specific software. Each assay will be realized 5 times and the tension values noted, whereas in each test will be expected to reset the tensions values to verify the absence of plastic deformation. The averages of tensions values registered will be grouped in tables and submitted to statistical analysis.
