Abstract

Surface treatments, development of new alloys and functionalization of the surfaces of implants with bioactive elements have been objectives of recent studies in the area of Dentistry aiming to contribute to the osseointegration process. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the physicochemical and biological characteristics of 15 molybdenum titanium disks subjected to the chemical-hydrothermal treatment with strontium in comparison to disks with smooth surfaces and with chemical treatment without the functionalization with strontium. The studied surfaces will be evaluated for topography and chemical composition by scanning electron microscopy tests associated to X-ray dispersive energy spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, roughness measurements and effective area with laser confocal microscope, contact angle and electrochemical tests for corrosion evaluation. In addition, the response of pre-osteoblastic MC3T3-E1 cells to these surfaces will be evaluated by observing cell morphology, adhesion, proliferation and cytotoxicity, gene and protein expression of osteogenesis markers and evaluation of mineralization nodules. These results are expected to determine benefits and possible applications of this new surface treatment in Implantology.
