Abstract

This document presents a research plan for a 4-month visit to the University of Milan (Italy), to work with Prof. Luigi Guzzo. The proposal is based on the exploitation of the "VIMOS Public Extragalactic Redshift Survey" (VIPERS), of which Prof. Guzzo is the leading scientist, in the context of our FAPESP project "Unifying Galaxy Evolution and Cosmology with Massive Dark-Energy Surveys". VIPERS provides an ideal data set to investigate the connection between galaxias and halos in the context of the large-scale structure of the Universe (LSS), due to a combination of a relatively large footprint, accurate photometry and spectroscopy, and broad galaxy selection. The goals of the visit are to familiarize with the VIPERS data and to advance in two main research lines that are naturally interconnected. First, the study of galaxy assembly bias, an unconfirmed hypothesis that states that the clustering of galaxies, at fixed halo mass, depends on secondary halo properties such as the accretion history of halos. Second, the application of multi-tracer LSS methods to galaxy survey data. These techniques, which we have recently applied to simulation data (Sato et al., in prep.), will be key to future surveys like J-PAS or Euclid, where cosmological constraints will be extracted from data sets containing multiple galaxy populations.
