Abstract

This research aims to investigate and understand the participation of women in the field of Brazilian design, focusing on textile artifacts between 1947 and 1987. In this period, this work seeks to understand women's participation in the construction of how design is thought; in the places that discussion about the activity was stimulated, in the constitution of the educational spaces for design as a profession, and also as producers of these artifacts. For this purpose, this research analyzes the textile exhibitions that took place at São Paulo Museum of Art (MASP) and at Museum of Modern Art of Rio de Janeiro (MAM-RJ). This work also investigates where the textile design is situated in the historiography of design and how this fabric making is linked to a feminine practice. Based on gender research and anchored in the history of women, this study seeks to document the participation and contribution of women in the field of Brazilian design from the trajectory of designers, weavers, tapestries, artisans and artists. Finally, this research proposes to analyze women's participation, to understand the artifacts, their modes of production and the spaces they occupy, in order to document and stimulate this discussion, yet little explored, for the field of design.
