Phylogeographic analysis of three species of the genus Idiops Perty 1833 (Araneae, Idiopidae)

Abstract

Spiders belonging to infraorder Mygalomorphae, which include tarantulas, trapdoor spiders and funnel web spiders, are characterized by a morphological uniformity and marked lifestyles, which are the evolutionary reflex of a habit of life strongly sedentary, limited dispersion and low vagility, which can lead to a strong population genetic structuration. These characteristics make them excellent models for integrative studies such as phylogeography, which aims to describe the principles and processes that govern the geographical distribution of genealogical lineages throughout their intraspecific range. Using an integrative approach using phylogenetic tools and molecular, morphometric and geographic data, three phylogenetically related species of the genus Idiops (Idiopidae) will be used in the analyzes: I. pirassununguensis Fukami & Lucas 2005, I. camelus (Mello Leitão 1937) and I. fuscus Perty 1983. It is hoped, therefore, to contribute to a better understanding of the intra and interspecific relations of three widely distributed species of Idiops, test the effectiveness of four new nuclear markers (MRPL45, RPF2, XPNPEP3 and HAT1) proposed for Idiopidae, to delimit possible existing cryptic species and collaborate to better understand the patterns and processes that shaped the current distribution of biodiversity in South America.
