Abstract

This project has as a primary objective the theoretical study and the numeric implementation of mathematical models dedicated to the evaluation of the vapor liquid equilibrium to the simulation of the evaporation of multicomponent droplets. Emphasis is given to fuel mixtures of water-ethanol and to application in spray combustion processes. This study justifies itself since it contributes to a better understanding of the evaporation process In multicomponent liquids, in the context of a consistent modelling for both the formation and the combustion of biphasic multicomponent mixtures. This type of reactive flow has plenty of practical applications; for example, the liquid spray combustion is a rising technology employed in internal combustion engines, gas turbines, furnaces, etc. Practically, real liquid fuels are always found as a mixture of two or more components, which classifies themselves as multicomponent. Given the great complexity associated to this kind of research, the use of Computational Fluid Dynamics is indispensable. Emphasis will be given to the precision and the numerical efficiency of different models for the equilibrium between the liquid and the vapor phases on the fuel mixture. It is intended to use well-established codes within the combustion scientific community, as well as codes built and worked on by the own student. Particularly, the applicability of ideal and non-ideal models to the computation of the vapor-liquid equilibrium will be investigated. (AU)
