Abstract

This research project is presented by Thassio Matias Pereira, a regular student of the master's degree program in the Graduate Program of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP), with the Department of Energy Systems, under the guidance of Professor PhD Maria Cristina Dias Tavares. The research project consists on analysis of overvoltages in a little more than half-wavelength transmission lines (HWL+) considering the occurrence of the corona effect. The HWL+ lines are an advantageous solution for the transport of large blocks of energy over long distances, having many advantages when compared to traditional HVDC systems. Despite such advantages, this system is subject to the occurrence of high overvoltages for faults that occur in specific sections of the line. In an attempt to solve this problem, several studies on overvoltages in HWL+ lines have been performed in recent years, however, in all cases the occurrence of the corona effect is neglected in the analyzes. Considering the fact that the corona effect plays a predominant role in the attenuation and distortion of the voltage and current waves, it becomes evident the need to investigate how this phenomenon can affect the overvoltage and overcurrent levels along the line. In these circumstances, the proposed project will study the influence of the corona effect on half-wavelength transmission lines, performing analyzes of several specific situations that occur in HWL+ line, both for steady-state operation and for transient operation. Analyzes and simulations will be performed with the MATLAB and PSCAD/EMTDC programs. Specific situations can be analyzed in Real Time Digital Simulator (RTDS "). (AU)
