Abstract

Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is one of the most prevalent orthopedic diseases affecting up to one third of the elderly population. Its main symptom is pain and directly affects patients' quality of life and functionality depending on the development, characterized in degrees, according to Kellgren-Lawrence. There are no studies yet to compare the difference in functionality and pain according to the different degrees. Objective: To evaluate pain intensity and functionality in patients with different degrees of KOA. Material and Methods: Cross-sectional study. Held at the Federal University of São Paulo - Campus Baixada Santista. Will participate in the study both genders diagnosed with unilateral or bilateral KOA with classification of Kellgren-Lawrence (KL) grade I, II, III and IV by means of radiography. (WHOQOL-abbreviated), functional KOOS questionnaire, numeric pain scale (NRS-11), temporal summation (TS), pressure pain threshold (PPT), neuropathic pain questionnaire (LANSS), strength (balance), sit-to-stand test (STS) and timing and test (TUG). Statistical analysis: Exploratory analysis of the characteristics of the patients with the purpose of comparison as pain variables, KOOS, WHOQOL, NRS-11, TS, PPT, LANSS, Strength platform, STS and TUG in relation to OA grades (I, II, III , IV) knee test will be used Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) with 1 fixed factor. If there are significant differences, will be used with Tukey Post hoc test for multiple comparisons.
