The coproduction of knowledge between climate services and energy sector: new methods and theories about science and decision-making interface

Abstract

The main goal of this research internship abroad is to advance the theoretical and methodological framework to study of the dynamics between climate services and electricity sector. More specifically, the internship will focus on understanding how the European interdisciplinary project "Copernicus" (provided by the University of East Anglia, Met Office and other partners) have co-designed tools to guide decision-making in electric power projects by an interdisciplinary work that involves climate scientists, social scientist and policymakers of the energy sector. Among the tools investigated are those called "proof-of-concept climate service" or "demonstrators". These tools, developed in close collaboration between developers and users, give the capability to explore high-quality climate and energy data sets. The aim of the internship is to acquire the ability to analyze science and decision making interfaces and learning how interdisciplinary projects can be developed in a collaborative way between science producers and users. It is fundamental for advancing the main research project in Brazil, which investigates how climate knowledge is produced and appropriate in the decision-making process of the energy sector. Understand this process and identify opportunities to enhance the relation between scientist and users of science information requires new methods and theories about science and decision-making interface. But also it is crucial to learn from the experiences of similar research projects that develop studies on climate services and the energy sector. (AU)
