The species Rhipicephalus sanguineus s. l. better known as "tick dog ", has a huge medical-veterinary importance, not only for spolling its host but also for being a potential vector of pathogens. Thus, numerous studies have been looking for effective methods to control this hematophagus, and currently the most used strategies for its control have been the use of synthetic chemical acaricides, however, the indiscriminate application of these chemicals has caused enormous disadvantages as the selection of more resistant to ticks, risk of host toxicity and human health, and environmental contamination. Therefore, new effective alternatives to control this ectoparasite need to be evaluated. Ozone has been reported in the literature as an oxidizing agent with potential antimicrobial, disinfectant, sterilizing and healing properties and its properties have been extensively exploited in the food industry, in the disinfection of hospitals, water treatment, animal and human therapeutic procedures, and recently also in the control of agricultural pests. In this sense, the question of its probable action as an acaricidal agent for the control of tick species, although some information in the literature confirmed this role, very few was studied about its acaricidal effect and mainly how the mechanisms of action on the exposure of the tissues and cells of these ectoparasites to that substance. In view of the above, the present study proposed to study the mechanisms of action of ozone (ozonated water) on tissues of salivary glands and integument of adult females of R. sanguineus s. l. (RML-RSE and RML-15) and salivary gland of the same species in vitro, establishing a comparison between the effects of this substance on the different cellular and tissue models, making use of techniques of flow cytometry and microscopies: light, transmission electronics and laser confocal.
