The aim of this study is to compare the analgesic efficacy of intraperitoneal (IP) and incisional (INC) block with ropivacaine for postoperative pain management in cats. Forty-five female cats undergoing ovariohysterectomy will be distributed into three groups of fifteen cats each: IP (n=15): IP ropivacaine 1% (1.5 mg/kg); INC (n=15): INC ropivacaine 1% (1.5 mg/kg); SAL (n=15): IP and INC saline solution 0.9%. The local administration of ropivacaine or saline will be performed after the stabilization of general anesthesia. The cats will be sedated with intramuscular acepromazine (0.05 mg/ kg) in combination with meperidine (6 mg/kg). Fifteen minutes after sedation, anesthesia will be induced with propofol (dose effect) and maintained with isoflurane/O2. Heart rate, respiratory rate, systolic arterial blood pressure, oxicapnografy, and end-tidal isoflurane concentration will be evaluated during the surgery. Postoperative analgesia will be assessed at 30 minutes, 1, 2, 4, 8, 12, 18 and 24 hours after the tracheal extubation using an Interactive and Dynamics Visual Analog Scale and UNESP-Botucatu Multidimensional Composite Pain Scale. The sedation degree will be evaluated with score system. Numerical data will be submitted to analysis of variance followed by Tukey's test for parametric measures and Kruskall-Wallis with post-Dunn test for nonparametric measures.
