In vitro permeation study of emulsion containing ferulic acid

Abstract

The Brazilian cosmetics market is among the most important in the world, occupying the 4th position in the world ranking and the 8th position in the market for the preparations whose goal is to treat the skin, known as skin care. In this market, anti-aging products have a strong growth trend and among these products antioxidants can be highlighted. Phenolic compounds occur universally in the plant kingdom, with cinnamic acids being part of this group of organic compounds. Ferulic acid is one of these representatives, with potential antioxidant action and anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. The classic emulsions are widely used by the consumer for the pleasant and refreshing sensory they provide, as well as presenting advantages such as ease of spreading, better penetration, protection against unstable compounds, absorption and consequently activity of the active components. It is necessary to know the behavior of the active materials when incorporated into the delivery systems, for this reason the main goal of this work will be to obtain the in vitro permeation profile of ferulic acid from an emulsion.
