Abstract

Down's syndrome is a chromosomal disorder caused by a disorganizationon chromosome 21, occurring by three different types: simple trisomy,mosaicism and translocation. Usually children with this syndrome presentdeficits in social relations, such as friendship, academic life, among others.others, which characterizes the theoretical and practical field of social skills. Thus, thisstudy will have as objectives: (a) To describe and analyze the repertoire of social skillsof children with Down syndrome; (b) Describe and analyze the perception of mothers aboutof the social skills of children with Down syndrome and (c) Describe and comparethe repertoire of social skills of children with Down syndrome as to sex andkind of school. Approximately six children aged between7 and 12 years with diagnosis of Down syndrome and the mothers or(only one of each person with SD). The survey will bedependencies of an Institute of coexistence of people with Down syndrome ina city in the interior of São Paulo -SP. In order to collect the data, asemi-structured interview script for mothers and/or guardians. This roadmap will beelaborated by the researcher divided into categories that encompass different aspects:information regarding the identification of the child (gender, age, school trajectory,received in the area of health and education) and components data(age, schooling and occupation of parents, marital status and family income).Also, it will be elaborated by the researcher, based on the Inventory Multimedia SystemSocial Skills for Children (SMHSC), a Questionnaire for mothers orresponsible for the purpose of identifying the perception of thesocial skills of these children. Finally, the Multimedia System Inventory ofChildren's Social Skills (SMHSC) to assess the social skills ofresearch children. The qualitative data obtained in interviews with mothers and / orwill be analyzed in a descriptive way in order to characterize theIn the same way, the data obtained in the questionnaire withmothers and caregivers, however, with the purpose of analyzing their perception of thesocial skills of children with Down syndrome.For the correction of the SMHSCwill be used the Data Processing Module of the Computerized Version (MPD)of the test that computes the child's overall average on the 21 items of the scale for eachindicators (frequency, difficulty and suitability). The score can range from zero totwo for all indicators and reactions. Expected results includecharacterization of the social skills of children with Down syndrome and possibleresearch guidelines for the contribution of the theme.
