Abstract

Natural products play an important role in the discovery of bioactive compounds, supporting and inspiring the development of new drugs. In this context, microorganisms have an important contribution, since most of the bioactive compounds are biosynthesized by them. It's known that social insects are susceptible to a high parasitic pressure, they live in a high population density, hot and humid weather conditions and in the case of bees, they maintain their food source inside the colony. Thus throughout the evolution, insects have established symbiotic relationships with microorganisms that are able to produce antimicrobial compounds for protection against pathogens. Based on that, this work aims the chemical and biological studies of the actinobacteria Streptomyces albiaxiais ICBG 1318 isolated from the stingless bee Melipona scutellaris. In a previous work of our research group, the ethyl acetate extract of the actinobacteria S. albiaxialis ICBG 1318 displayed excellent inhibition against the parasite Leishmania donovani and the entomopathogenic bacteria Paenibacillus larvae. From this extract, two compounds were isolated which are being elucidated. Therefore, this actinobacteria will be submitted to different culture conditions, aiming analyze the variation in the production of bioactive secondary metabolites, besides testing them against human pathogens and entomopathogenic fungus as Beauveria bassiana e Metarhizium anisopliae.
