FUNGAL MICROBIOME IN HUMAN TUMOURS

Abstract

The human microbiome is the group established between the interactions of body sites and the microbes communities that reside within. With the advances in molecular technologies, the existence of a great microorganisms diversity that wasn't detected before was revealed. Thus, new evidence of the role of microorganisms in host health was emerging. The study of the interaction between microbiome and cancer is very promising and may contribute to the understanding of the development of the disease, although the majority of the research focuses only on the bacteria within the microbiome. Other members, like the fungi, are neglected due to the minor contribution to the whole human microbiome, but their importance to the human health is well defined and also may be related to inflammatory diseases, but its cancer association is yet poor explored. This work intends to perform the study of the fungal microbiome related to types of human cancer located in regions more exposed to the external environment, looking to identifying the fungal diversity and its tumorigenesis contribution.
