Instructions to be a good chronicler in Spain (16th and 17th centuries)

Abstract

Between the 16th and 17th centuries, they were produced in Spain several treaties that sought not only to define the rules that should guide the writing of the history, but also a good chronicler's expected qualities. The authors of those treaties justify that the image of a kingdom and, consequently, of his king it was building from the history elaborated by scholars responsible for registering the past. The proposal of this project is to interrogate as those scholars defined the chronicler's occupation and historian in the Spanish society of that time. More precisely, unfolding one of the objectives of my post-doctorate research, The art of writing the history (Spain - 16th and 17th centuries), that looks for to examine the guidelines that oriented the make Spanish history, this project, to be developed in the period of nine months abroad, has a objective to analyze the functions attributed to the chronicler/historian, as well as the necessary requirements for the exercise of that métier.
