Abstract

Volcanic events have long been without doubt reason for fear and attraction to the human race. An understanding of magmatic processes is of utmost importance in the understanding of the evolutionary history of Earth and events that relate to climate and life. Although they represent temporary conditions of magmatic systems, volcanic eruptions have a great potential in the generation of great changes in all terrestrial environments, a great production of studies are carried out associating the volcanism with situations of threat and changes in the environment. One of the largest LIPs (Large IgneousProvinces) in the world, the Paraná-Etendeka Magmatic Province (PMPE) is present in 4 countries in southern South America and with a remnant portion not West African, this gigantic area of volcanic cover predominantly of tholeitic basalts are associated with the break of the Gondwana Supercontinent and the opening of the Atlantic Ocean in the Cretaceous Period (135-130 Ma years ago). The objective of the present project is to determine the compositions and volatile saturation depths / temperatures of the magmatic rocks of the Paraná-Etendeka Province, based on the study of fluid inclusions in pyroxene and plagiooclase phenocrysts. This study will help in the determination of potential climate changes associated with the PMPE event. For the study of fluid inclusions in the pyroxene and plagiooclase phenocrysts, samples were collected during field campaigns carried out during 5 years by the FAPESP Thematic Project 2012 / 06082-6 (A Província Magmática Paraná-Etendeka no Brasil: relações temporais e petrológicas entre o magmatismo toleítico e alcalino e suas implicações geodinâmicas). These samples are chosen so as to maintain a representativity of the province and are analyzed by detail petrography, selecting fluid inclusions for microtermometry and microRaman spectrometry, which serve to obtain the phase change temperatures beyond the compositions of each inclusion. This proposal of study is linked to the project of the orientation Adriana Alves (Serrapilheira Project G-1709-21397 - PLACING QUANTITATIVE LIMITATIONS ON THE POTENTIAL ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE MAGANTISM PARANÁ-ETENDEKA) and is justified by the great potential of the Province in the generation of events In large scale of climate change and by scanty studies associating fluid inclusions.
