Abstract

This research lies in a thin boundary between education, physical education and art and expatiates on the relationship between the teachers' continued training, the place of the body and the expressiveness in education. Our intent, in an overall manner, is that the teachers in preschool and the first grades of elementary school can comprehend the educational and artistic possibilities of the gestures through experiment, awareness and the perception of their bodies. And in a more specific manner, we look to verify if the corporal practices experienced by the faculty members contribute or not to this perspective and understanding of the gesture as a form of communication and expression being reverberated in the teaching placements. Methodologically, we propose to conduct studies that discuss the continued training thematic and studies that contribute to the understanding of the gesture as cultural and social expression, which sets itself in corporal expressions systematically organized by body language. We will organize an extension course for teachers in preschool and the first grades of elementary school of the public system in Campinas, São Paulo, with the purpose that the teachers comprehend and reflect upon the place of the body and the art in education through the experience in the corporal and artistic activities. In a second phase, we will organize a focus group which will be established starting with an invitation to the participants of the extension course in order to discuss the reverberations of the extension course in their teaching placements. As a main outcome of this research, we aim to expand the discussions about the fundamental theoretical and meta-theoretical mainspring for the development of the corporal expressions (athletic and/or artistic) in formal education institutions that develop new meaning starting from human sciences that understand children as people that produce cultures and corporal culture being one of them. The research will take place in the Art, Body and Education Laboratory (FE-Unicamp), which was chosen bearing in mind that in this Laboratory researches are held in interface between art, body, teacher training and elementary education.
