Abstract

In this research it is intended to analyze how the violence is represented in Veronica Stigger's work, assuming that her texts are dissonant in relation to the contemporary literary production that appoints the theme of violence. When we delineate a trajectory of the representation of violence in Brazilian prose of the last 30 years, it is possible to realize that this theme is related to an impulse to represent unequal social relations within capitalist society, markedly in the large cities' context. Therefore, these texts have been using realistic representation schemes, exposing violence immediately. However, in the Stigger's tale, violence is not presented as a direct form of denunciation, and the realism dyes with the colors of the grotesque, nonsense and irony. The reading and analysis of her tales according to theoretical and critical discussions about contemporary Brazilian literature, about the representation of violence and about the grotesque will allow us to point the schemes used in Stigger's literature that approaches or distances hes from other contemporary writers.
