Abstract

The proposal aims to deepen the master research that is being developed in Brazil. The work is about the memory representations of the last and most violent Argentina's military dictatorship (1976-1983) in the architecture and urban landscape of Buenos Aires. Our approach is the Red Federal de Sitios de Memoria, today Dirección Nacional de Sitios de Memoria, focusing on five ex clandestine detention centers, today places of memory, part of that network and that are located in Buenos Aires: the Ex Escuela Mecánica de la Armada (ESMA), the ex Olimpo, the ex Virrey Cevallos, the ex Club Atlético and the Ex Automottores Orletti. We analyze how these sites work together, how they complement each other (or not), building a complex and non-redundant narrative in the city (or not). The overall objective of the reflection about the Argentinian case is to illuminate new possibilities for we to work with the same issue in Brazil and from the field of architecture and urbanism. In its turn, the BEPE proposal has three central objectives: the internship at the Universidad de Buenos Aires (UBA), with the supervision of professor Ana Guglielmucci, that proposes a theoretical deepen about the subject - the relations between hurtful memories, architecture and city; the contact with the memory sites, objects of the master research - with the agents that manage them, characters of their stories, and with the documents available in those places; and the immersion in the Argentinian bibliographic about the subject - available, especially, in the mainly libraries of UBA.
